Book List [13 Jan 2009|05:28pm]
I went to the public library today. Hadn't been there in so long that my card was no longer active.

Here's what I checked out:

Tender is the Night, Fitzgerald
The Garden of Eden, Hemingway
As I Lay Dying, Faulkner
Middlesex, Jeffrey Eugenides
Snow, Orhan Pamuk

My sister has the new Kindle which is like an ipod only bigger and for books and you probably don't look as cool carrying it around. You can download books for 1.99 at amazon and store them. I haven't used it but its a really cool concept, except I don't think it has the capability to remember where you left off if there's more than one person using it (which they probably did purposely to make more money). I think they should have a username that you sign on and it automatically takes you to the right book and page.

put her on guard.

'my eyeball just fell out of its socket' [18 Mar 2006|06:03pm]
Villanova basketball star Allan Ray had his eyeball literally poked out of its socket by an opposing player in a recent game. Ray has been treating the injury with eye drops, and he planned to meet with doctors to find out if he can play in the first round of the NCAA tournament. What should you do if your eyeball comes out of your head?

Get it put back in, and soon.

...what if a rancher had a prize cow in Montana, and another rancher in Australia wanted to raise progeny of that prize cow on his own farm. It could be done by washing the blastocysts out of the uterus of the prize cow, and then placing the the blastocysts into the ovicduct of a rabbit where it will not implant, but can survive for some time. The bunny can be shipped rather cheaply to Australia...

sometimes you want to just run away and hide from things you can't really fathom or put into words.

side note: i saw the governor and his family today at breakfast. it wasn't so exciting.

long time no write. [18 Jan 2006|07:39pm]
I was researching FIDM and FIT the other day online and requested more information. I get a message today, in gateway reading about hormones that cause testes to make sperm, & it's a counselor from fidm telling me to call her so we can talk about the school, etc. I cannot believe how excited i was for a second and then I realized I probably wouldn't be calling her back.

You will marry rich, but you have to finish college first,
just in case. Also, finishing college allows you more
access to rich people,e.g. boys going to med school, law
school, etc

Popular legend holds that the campus was designed in an era of student protest, and the campus's circular design was meant to discourage student contact and congregation, and thus minimize protests and rioting. Students were meant to drive into a building's parking lot, walk to class, then later walk back to their cars and drive home. Therefore, most social contact would be with others studying in the same major. Adding to this legend is the existence of underground tunnels linking the buildings, supposedly for the emergency evacuation of faculty and administrators and to facilitate the movement of police. (In reality, the tunnels simply contain steam and utility lines.) Most likely, the design of the campus is simply representative of mid-60s urban design, favoring large open spaces and decentralized facilities over the dense layout of older campuses.

Irvine itself is one of the largest planned communities in the United States. Local residents are stereotyped as upper-income, conservative professionals, who stay at home and raise families. The housing market is extremely expensive.

I had a good dinner of steak and wine tonight. Also, i love icecream.
I'm waiting for Dry, sequel to Running With Scissors, to come in the mail. Haven't read a good book in a long while.
Getting my first paycheck on Saturday I think :) School should start already, i'm really sick of customers and wearing gross work clothes in triple digits.
Still in search of a roommate. Its harder than I thought it.

My sister wrote me recently, referring to her new megatrendy hood (Los Feliz):
I went to the coffee bean down the street today, was a neighborhood of posers
this place is. all these
i'm-so-effortlessly-good-looking-dressed-in-the-latest-cute-thing people,
hanging out before 5pm, obviously with no jobs or still in school. oh vey. it
was a little uncomfortable and pretentious. There was this white man and woman
talking about bands, and one of them started talking about this band called the
Negro Problem... i'm not sure if the black security officer knew that they were
referring to a band or not... "When did the Negro Problem start?" "I saw the
Negro Problem years ago..."... it was funny and not at the same time.

I replied that had I been there, spitting of my english breakfast tea latte no foam extra hot would be in order.
